Looking for a water adventure for the hot hot days of summer? Or maybe you are just looking for a way to splash around and burn off some energy? Whatever reason, creek stomping is a fun favorite for just about any warm day! While you might not want to do this after there’s been a bunch of rain, you will want to make sure you have the right goods to make it a great experience. Here’s my list of creek stomping essentials so you can have a great day splashing away!
Blanket
Make sure you bring a beach blanket. It could be towels or an old blanket, but something you don’t mind getting wet and possibly muddy. Here’s my favorite.

Chairs
If you plan to spend more than a couple hours, grab a few beach chairs. Depending on where you go creek stomping, you might want a comfy place to sit! And these are great because they are easily carried like a backpack!
Water Shoes
If you have kiddos, water shoes are a must. Each creek is a little different and sometimes littles feet (and adults too) are sensitive. To have a happier experience, don’t forget the water shoes! We like these Natives and Crocs.
Sand Toys
While most kids can have fun throwing rocks into the water and looking for small swimming creatures, when the kids need a break, break out the toys. You can find a bucket, shovels, and shapers easily. Here’s our favorite pick with all different kinds of tools and toys for the sand plus a truck!
PACKING FOR SUMMER CAMP
Sunscreen
While lots of creek stomping places are pretty shady, you still want to throw on some sunscreen. This is one of the times when you might not think you are getting that much sun, but end up with a burn. Never forget the sunscreen!
Bug Spray
Again, depending on where you end up for your creek stomping fun, you will want to have some bug spray in your back pocket. Wet and mucky areas tend to attract the bugs and you don’t want to come home with a bunch of bites!
Mesh Bag
Grab a mesh bag to keep all your goodies in. That way you don’t take a ton of sand home with you! Or a waterproof one does just fine too. I like to use the TJ MAXX or Ikea bags, so while not mesh, they are at least easily disposable if ruined.
Fishing Net
Every kids going to want a little fishing net for their day at the creek. Find tadpoles, snails, whatever, but it’ll be fun for them to try to scoop up what they spy with a lightweight net. You can put your catches in a bucket for a while, but then don’t forget to let them go before you head home.
Waterproof Phone Bag
We grabbed these bags for our trip to Disney in case it rained (and for water rides), but we’ve used them over and over for different reasons. Beach or creek trips need some extra safety for your favorite accessories — Your phone!
Backpack Cooler
This is a must-have if you are planning to be out for a while. It’s easy to carry and you can load it with drinks and snacks. Or even use it to pack a picnic if you are spending the day!
