I’ve been keeping a list of books I want to get Ella. She turns seven on Friday {Yes, I am in disbelief myself} and I always get her a book for her birthdays. This year I might break the bank on books, but you can never have too many, right?!
And there really are so many great books out there!
So here are my picks for a seven-year-old girl! These make great gifts for those never-ending party invites too!
Resist: 35 Profiles of Ordinary People Who Rose Up Against Tyranny and Injustice
This book just makes me want to protest, participate and be better! The title alone inspiring…
I am on a mission to help Ella learn as much about differences as possible. I want her to be as inclusive as possible and teaching about others is the best way to help her understand that we aren’t all the same but that doesn’t make anyone less than any other!
Limitless: 24 Remarkable American Women of Vision, Grit, and Guts
Stories about American women with true grit sounds alright by me! While we live in a world where women do more than they’ve ever done before, I want her to know that she can do ANYTHING! It’s a recurring theme at our house!
For the Right to Learn: Malala Yousafzai’s Story (Encounter: Narrative Nonfiction Picture Books)
I also want her to know that some things that we have or are allowed to do are privileged. In this case, I don’t think education is a privilege, I think it’s a human right, but I want her to realize that is not the case around the world and for everyone. I think this is a cool book mostly because I think Malala is a really cool girl.
Peanut Butter and Jelly (A Narwhal and Jelly Book 3)
I don’t know about you but Ben Clanton is like a superhero in our house. He and Mo Willems. Their books are like gold to my kiddo! She reads them faster than anything and she giggles and smiles while reading them! This is the next book we need. Book 4 is available too!
We haven’t read these yet, but they look cute and I love that there are different books to the series. Yes, I totally judge books by their covers. You can shame me later!
We recently watched the movie together and I was pleasantly surprised by Ella’s response. We purchased Mr. Brown’s Precepts and we try to read a saying every day. I need to get better at remembering this. BUT I do believe we are all wonders and I think she’d thoroughly enjoy this book.
OTHER READING LISTS
Do your kids love Rise of the Guardians as much as mine do? They watch this show all year round. And there’s something really special to them with Jack Frost. They love him. So when I saw this book at Barnes and Noble the other day, I knew that this would make the list! They might be a little advanced but this would be a fun series to read together before bed.
And lastly, a classic. Kind of. I’m not going to lie, we already have the original Mary Poppins that I purchased for one of the girl’s nurseries… and we still haven’t read it. BUT we have been playing the Mary Poppins Returns soundtrack on repeat since before Christmas so… I think we might get through this one timely!
So there are my picks for books for Ella’s birthday which is right around the corner!
And like I said, they make excellent picks for those last-minute birthday party present needs!
Look our seven-year-old girls… time to get to reading!
