A few years ago, like in 2012, I had to work in Blaine Washington. Since I work for CBP, when I travel, it’s to the outer edges of the country. I had always wanted to go to the Pacific Northwest but honestly figured I’d probably never really get there. My husband is not so outdoorsy and I just didn’t see him wanting to go up to the very earthy area. Insert work travel. Time to visit Washington!
We headed up to Blaine to replace some cash registers at the ports of entry. After working a couple of long days, we had the weekend to explore before starting work back up again on Monday! And wouldn’t you know it, one of the gals we worked with had a boat she offered to take us out on!
PACIFIC NORTHWEST
The landscapes out there are amazing! And their beauty is even more emphatic when you are on a boat in the Pacific Ocean! They floated us around to the San Juan Islands, Roche Harbor, and some other stops along the way. We were so fortunate to see Orcas in the wild which may be one of my most memorable experiences EVER. We could see the mountains that were skied on for the Vancouver Olympics. We saw the Spieden Island.
WANT TO SEE MORE TRAVEL?
Have you ever seen Orcas in the wild? It’s just that — WILD.
And have you ever seen a privately-owned wildlife sanctuary closed to the public? When you do, you’ll never forget it!
And have you see ever driven into an Old Wild West town with a Dukes of Hazard car and cop to greet you at the front of the town?
You should check out Winthrop Washington. It’s also home to the oldest legal saloon in the states!
Or a baby bear tumble down the side of a mountain right in front of your car?
Here’s a link to most of my photos of us out and about exploring the islands and driving through the mountains…
This was a trip I consider one of a lifetime. When will I have a chance to visit again, and island-hop?! AND while we were there, we had flown into SEATAC. The drive from Seattle to Blaine wasn’t too bad and we were staying in between the cities in Bellingham…. So we were also able to explore on land – Seattle!
SEATTLE
I was able to go up to the top of the Space Needle which I now know I’d like to check out for New Years Eve Fireworks and Celebration!
I got to visit the FIRST Starbucks Store & Pike Place Market.
And I got to take in some of the most beautiful art installations all over the city!
Because I took way too many photos, I made another slide show to share my favorites from Seattle. This little visit to Washington was the best!
Happy Travels!
