This weekend was jam packed. We did it all. If it was happening, we did it…
We were home visiting Fort Wayne, Indiana to be tourists in the city we grew up in, but we also were home to go to the Family Fall Fun Fest at the Hake household. My parents decided a little while back that they wanted to host DIY Fall Festival full day of fun at their house for my girls and this weekend was it!
FAMILY FALL FESTIVAL
So, what do you need to put on a great {small} Family Fall Festival for your family?!
Food :: Every great festival has great food. It started with this adorable tablescape my mom put together. I think she purchased food for 50 when it was really only ever going to be between 5-10 people throughout the day, but it made for a beautiful table. While we didn’t have funnel cakes or elephant ears, we did enjoy lots of fruit and veggies, pumpkin rice krispie treats, cupcakes, puppy chow, candy apples and tons more!
Games :: With it being 1000 degrees due to a strangely timed late summer heat wave, the girls spent a good amount of time in the blow up pool in the backyard, but they also played games including apple bobbing and potato sack races. And the best part?! They were given medals at the end of the backyard games!
BACKYARD FUN
Crafts :: Pumpkin painting was a hit. It was too easy to drape a drop cloth over a picnic table and bring out loads of glitter, paint, poms, and more! The girls really loved this and they surprised us with their painting skills and design choices. They also did tie dye!
Goodie Bags :: My mom even made up cute little goodie bags for the girls.
Bonfire :: And when the sun started to go down, the girls headed out back to the fire with Papa and Gram Tam to cook some Jiffy Pop over the flames along with smores!
DIY FALL FESTIVAL
Easy Decor :: Grab a bottle of spray chalk for creating start and finish lines for the games, decorate a chalk board, or hang fun fall decor from the rails of the deck! My parents also sprayed the girls names in the yard too! It made it personal and fun for them to see their names written so big!
Everything was a hit with the kids! And they were talking about the good times by the fire by telling us the stories of what happened while driving home… Like how they burnt the popcorn but still ate it and how Papa nailed his Jiffy Pop to a 2×4 to cook over the fire! I think the laughs and memories will be with them for a while!
FALL BREAK BUCKET LIST
So now, we just have to figure out if this will be an annual thing or a one time fun fest! Thanks to Gram Tam & Papa for making a fun day for my girls. I know they’ll remember this day and probably ask when it’s happening again!
