This spring break is going to be a little different and we are going to have to get creative. With Corona-virus (Covid-19) outbreaks and updates happening daily, this spring break will most likely be one that we spend mostly at home. Which means, no heading out to large gatherings or dinners or even fun museums. So I’ve come up with a fun roundup of at home activities to try this spring break!
CREATE YOUR OWN WONDERLAND
Justify your amazon purchases easily to your husband by allowing your kids to create from all your boxes! Take the lead from June in Wonder-Park {If you haven’t watched this show yet, it’s on Hulu and it’s lovely} and show the kids how they can make Ferris wheels and roller coasters and let them take over a room or hall or the stairs! Encourage creativity by helping create never before seen rides and even ones that couldn’t logically work, but they could in your imagination!
MAKE PLAY DOUGH
Would you believe I’ve never made my own play dough before? I just buy it because I’m lazy. But apparently it’s very easy. This is one you can leave your kids to as well. And this way they can make their own colors and even add essential oils to create your own scent!
STAMP IT OUT
Create your own stamps using potatoes, foam sponges, wine corks, and or even erasers! While this one might be an activity geared to older kids, if you want to let the little ones have fun, pre-cut the foam sponges (which are easy) into different shapes before you are ready to go! The older kids can make their own stamps out of erasers, potatoes, and wine corks. I watched this video how to do the harder textile ones.
MAKE BATH BOMBS
This activity is a favorite in our house. My girls LOVE bath bombs. Especially those with fun little surprises in them. So pull your favorite tutorial off pinterest or order a kit and have at it. This can get messy but it’s really fun for the kids. Plus, they get to enjoy what they made later that night in the bath!

HAVE A LEGO MASTERS CHALLENGE
We’ve recently been obsessed with Lego Masters Challenge and who doesn’t have a box of Legos just sitting around somewhere in their house. If you don’t, you can grab a classic Lego box at the store. Think of something that might not be too hard, but has NO instructions and let them see if they can’t come up with something fantastic. Give them a time limit and theme and they drive the rest! You can even get really fun and quickly spray paint a golden brick to give to the winner!
MAKE A BUCKET LIST
With summer right around the corner, maybe talk about all the places you’d like to visit this summer (since you can’t go now) by creating your summer bucket list. This could be an activity that the whole family is a part of, or let the kids have fun with it and take charge! Make it take a little longer by encouraging details like adding photos or adding small drawings for each place or activity identified. And make sure to include some at home activities too, because we all know it rains in in the summer!
PAINT A GIANT CANVAS
Of all these suggested at home activities, this might be my favorite. Grab a large roll of butcher paper or craft paper and hang it on the wall. I would probably double or even triple layer it if paint and/or markers are involved just in case. Then let the kids go to town! Creating their own masterpiece! You could even pull up 2-3 famous painters for them to gain inspiration from! To make it even more fun, you can draw frames for them to paint inside of!
MIDWEST SPRING BREAK IDEAS
CREATE A YARN OBSTACLE COURSE
Create a yarn laser tag course that the kids have to try to get from one end to the other without touching! This will be a fun activity that will let them move around a bit and and also make them think! Just be careful, they could get caught up in all that yarn too and you might have to untangle them.
MOVIE MARATHON
Another way to fill your time at home is spending a day in your PJs watching movies. Take turns with the kids picking one that everyone HAS to watch. We like to pick older classics from our childhood and make our kids watch them. They don’t usually like it at first, but in the end, they always ask to watch those again!
MAKE CARDBOARD RAINBOWS
Cut out a rainbow shape and encourage the kids to scour the craft drawers for the colors of the rainbow. Use old magazines, pompoms, paint, washi tape, scrapbook paper, buttons, ect… and sort them! Then make your rainbow! Not only is this fun, it’ll brighten any corner of the house! Check out our favorite craft supplies!

DECORATE THE DOLLHOUSE
If you don’t already have a dollhouse, create one with boxes! You can either gather different sizes of boxes and stack them together to create different rooms, or grab a big one and divvy it up in to bedrooms, dining rooms, and kitchens! If you do already have a dollhouse, try to add some sass to it with new curtains and new furniture. Get creative. You can use anything you can think of!
BUST BOREDOM
Let the kids collaborate on a boredom buster activity jar. Come up with lots of ideas of things to do when feeling less inspired like draw a treasure map or paper plate ring toss! Whatever you put in the jar, make it fun! Come up with your own at home activities or you can find a cute printable here.
