As many of you know, we moved into our new home right before the holidays. After multiple requests, a home tour is coming to Instagram this week I hope And now, here we are, in a beautiful new home (builder grade) and ready to make it feel like ours (and not just like our neighbors). Before we moved in, I tried to have a game plan for almost every room in the house which means I made up little mood boards in an attempt to (1) be better organized with what was needed for the new house and (2) make sure I liked what I was thinking about doing before jumping right in. So here’s our kitchen mood board which is probably going to change a bit, as I’m already ready to swap a few things out.
Chairs – Table – Counter Stools – Rug – Lighting – Artwork – Cutting Boards
Cabinets & Backsplash are just what we have
First, I didn’t want to have to buy EVERYTHING new! Actually, scratch that. I would have LOVED that. But new everything wasn’t in the budget. So, I picked a few things I was willing to work with. Like our kitchen chairs. At our old house, we had an eat in kitchen that was pretty cozy, and I had an island that I made that was teal. So, the teal chairs were a great fit when I found them on Facebook Marketplace for $60 for 4.
Side note — if you haven’t scoured marketplace yet, go do it and come back and tell me how much you love it or hate it.
I love it.
It’s like the worlds best and easiest thrift store with some of the best inventory.
Ok, so the chairs were staying. The old table was too small {and beat up} so it made it’s way to our basement leaving us needing a new one. The search was on.
Has anyone else been furniture shopping lately?! It’s ridiculous. It’s kind of like buying a house right now. There aren’t enough to choose from. Except almost all furniture is on backorder. So if we wanted a table to eat at, our options were limited. Enter IKEA.
We grabbed this gray IKEA table not being 100% sure we’d love it. And I’d say the table is fine but we are only ok with it. It works, but hopefully at some point we’ll be able to upgrade.
Outside of that, we haven’t done much else for this area. We have a table and chairs and an old console table that needs some major love or needs to find a new home. I cannot wait to start adding/changing lights and adding artwork. It still feels pretty sterile here and I can’t wait to warm it up!
I feel this space could be very cozy and a hang out space when people come over (if that ever happens again). So I’m hoping to move from the above kitchen mood board into something a little more like this (below) down the road. For now, I’m looking for new chairs and a rug and then a little later I’ll work towards my below inspiration photo! Getting the hubs on board to change a brand new house is a feat in itself so we’ll take baby steps.

What do you think of this type of setup? I think it’s cozy and leaves more seating as well as a way to still be comfy while lingering at the table after dinner. And we technically have a formal dining room so I think it’s ok to have this one be more loungy.
What’s one thing you’d want to change about your kitchen if money were no issue?!
