Everybody’s goal is to own their own house. But, in order to get there, you need to save the pennies and scrimp as much as you can. However, this saving does not necessarily mean that you cannot have a nice home whilst doing so. There are so many small home improvements you can do that create significant changes to your current home without having to break the bank.
SMALL HOME IMPROVEMENTS YOU CAN DO TODAY!
Paint
Painting the house is one way that you can turn your boring walls into something worth living in. For example, that washed out white can be improved with a fresh coat of white paint. In addition, the wall-papered walls which bring down the mood can always be lifted and painted. What is best about this idea is that everybody can be handy with a brush. You need not be an expert craftsperson to be able to paint a room. Most small home improvements can be done by anyone!
The paint does not have to stop on the walls, though. Now, people are painting their flooring to brighten things up. If you have ugly looking lino in your bathroom, or plain wooden paneling, consider buying some budget black and white paint. With this, you can paint out a harlequin design on your floor, to make the room slightly more fancy than it is.
Stair Runners and Rugs
If your stairs are really bare, and make your staircase seem hollow and your house seem empty, there is no need to fork out on carpeting them. Carpeting an entire staircase may seem necessary, but it is expensive to say the least. Buying a budget stair-runner, instead, will be a cost-effective way to spruce them up. You can buy stair runners from most diy stores, but what is best about them is that you need not spend a fortune on them. It’s small home improvements like these that make your home stand out! Buy a non-slip one, though, to ensure you aren’t compromising yours or your families safety whilst being on a budget.
A BIG GIRL ROOM REVEAL
Repairs
The general wear-and-tear of a house can be enough to make anyone want to move out. However, if you are saving for your dream-house, consider doing them yourself (within reason, of course). To start, squeaky doors can be annoying, and also another thing stacked on top of the to-do list. However, there is a simple way to alleviate this stress without calling someone in and spending money. In humid weather, doors swell if they are made of wood. If it sticks during these particularly humid months, consider planNing them. In order to plane a door, you will need a carpenter’s plane, to scrape a small layer of the wood off of the door.
When it comes to problems with your roof, though, I wouldn’t recommend trying to fix them yourself. For this, I would consider spending money on roof repair.
In conclusion, just because you are saving your money for your dream home, it doesn’t mean you have to live in squalor. Small home improvements such as painting or buying stair runners can be ways in which your temporary house can be a temporary home.
