Well, it’s been a while since I’ve shared an about me post and with quite a few new followers over on the gram, I figured it might be time. I’m not always good about sharing about ME, but I’m getting a little better all the time. I don’t like to talk about myself b/c I just don’t like to, so… there’s another thing about me before I even get started… but here’s 10 things you might not know about me… or maybe you do!
I am the oldest of 4 siblings. Yep, there’s four of us Hake kids in my family and I was the one who led the pack, but just in age. My brother led the pack in popularity, my sister in sports and sass, and my little brother in everything. I feel like I just did the oldest sibling thing and did what the parents expected (most of the time) and paved the way for the others to mess up a little more than I did.
Organized chaos should be my name because I am a mess. Yes, I am. My brain feels like it’s in utter chaos at most moments and I can’t keep track of anything mine. Are you my child and need something!? Well, I can find that for you lickety split, but something of mine?! No idea. Can anyone else relate?
I LOVE to tablescape. It’s literally the one thing that’s brought me joy over the years. I don’t really know why, but I think it’s because it’s manageable. It can be big or small and still be impactful. Plus, while we don’t do it much, I do love gathering around a table with friends/family.
My styling work has been published via a few midwest media outlets. We were featured in a few wedding shoots when I had Maeve Vintage and I believe our work is also featured in a couple of self-published books.
I want to write a few children’s books. I actually have one of them written already and am currently on the hunt probably for a literary agent from what I’ve researched. In college, I fell in love with creative writing but life got in the way. I feel like most days there’s a narration in my head of the events going on like you’d read it in a book… “she awoke with a little sleep in her eye and reached for the white bedside lamp but instead knocked over her water creating a giant mess.”
I watch movies and listen to the soundtrack intensely. Ever since I was young, I think I’ve watched movies FOR the soundtracks. I immediately decide if they’d be good skating music or not. And I love good instrumental theme songs like those from Practical Magic or Forest Gump.
My husband’s side of the closet is WAY more full than mine… And mine is full of hand-me-down clothes from my younger sister, mostly because I don’t like to shop anymore. Ever since having kids, shopping just isn’t the same, unless it’s for the house! I hope someday my relationship with my body will change, but we aren’t there yet.
My favorite color is RED, although I don’t really like to have RED things… hahah. My second favorite color is probably Black — and when I was younger, I always loved when skaters would wear red dresses with black tights… I thought it was SO freakin’ cool!
Even though my kids are growing up, I cannot stop looking at kids items, specifically playhouses and kids furniture. It’s just too cute. Anyone else have this problem? Also, my husband only sees objects that get in the way of mowing when I bring up playhouses.
I really do love blogging and I hope it helps someone along the way! It’s my creative outlet to offset my boring day job. HA. I started this blog all the way back in 2008 or 2009 to share my wedding DIYs, but now it’s changed into other things. My very first home DIY was a bamboo mirror that I put above our bed. I grabbed bamboo sticks and a small mirror and glued it all together and was hooked. Funny to think of how that started this all, but here we are and I hope it’s for a while longer too!
So there you are! A little about me! Until next time!
